Collection: Mowers & Lawn Tractors

Zero-turn and riding mowers, lawn tractors and walk-behind mowers from John Deere, Cub Cadet, Troy-Bilt and more.

How to choose a mower

The right mower depends on the size of your lawn, the number of obstacles and the slope, far more than on horsepower. Match the machine to your land and the job gets faster and the machine lasts longer.

1

Lawn size

Under half an acre, a walk-behind or robotic mower is enough. From half an acre to two acres, a riding mower or lawn tractor with a 42–48 in deck. Beyond that, a zero-turn with a 54–60 in deck saves hours every week.

2

Zero-turn or lawn tractor

Zero-turns are fastest around trees and beds and cut the most grass per hour. Lawn tractors handle slopes better and can tow carts, spreaders and snow equipment.

3

Slopes

Most manufacturers limit zero-turn mowers to about 10–15 degrees of slope. On steeper ground a lawn tractor or walk-behind is the safer choice.

4

Gas or battery

Battery mowers are quiet, start instantly and need almost no maintenance. Gas still leads for large properties and long mowing sessions.

Questions & answers

What deck size do I need?

Roughly 42 in for up to 1 acre, 46–48 in for 1–2 acres, and 54 in or wider above 2 acres. A wider deck saves time but needs wider gates and more storage space.

Are robotic mowers worth it?

For small and medium lawns without steep slopes, yes. Wire-free models with GPS or vision navigation are far easier to set up than older boundary-wire systems.

How are riding mowers delivered?

Riding and zero-turn mowers ship by freight, usually on a pallet and mostly assembled. The carrier books a curbside delivery appointment with you.
